Questions & Answers
How can I determine my hair structure?
Determining the structure of your hair will help you choose the right products. Depending on the texture, different care methods may be required. Thicker, denser textures require more time, effort and heat. Treating highly textured hair (tighter curls) requires more styling effort. And the more coiled the curl, the more difficult the product application becomes. The hair is washed and treated differently: Both professionals and clients know that curls require a multi-step layering technique for intense moisture with a regular reset. The hair is styled differently: Both professionals and clients need to make sure that the hold is not too strong, does not look stiff and that you do not overdo it. The hair does not dry equally fast: Curls need longer to dry. Therefore, both professionals and clients need to use the drying time more optimally, without dehydrating the hair in the process. Last but not least, the change in hair structure: when women with curly hair decide to switch from straightened hair to natural hair, the hair often grows back more slowly. They also often suffer from traction alopecia when they wear protective hairstyles like braids.
How do I find the right Curl Expression care routine for my hair?
In order to create your care routine with Curl Expression products, you first need to determine your hair texture and porosity, your scalp type and the desired result.
What are the benefits of Curl Expression's three active ingredients?
Urea H: This softening active ingredient is a natural component of the skin and has two positive effects: It moisturises and strengthens the hydrolipid barrier at the same time!
Glycerin: A plant-based moisturiser known for its strong hydrating effect by binding water. Highly concentrated at up to 3%, it provides long-lasting moisture for even the driest hair fibres.
Hibiscus Seeds: They are traditionally used in African beauty rituals. They are a nutrient-rich natural source of amino acids and high-quality vitamins and have been extracted from the heart of the hibiscus flower for centuries. They provide more moisture, strength, shine, suppleness and definition to the curls.
Can Curl Expression also be used on coloured/toned hair?
Yes, use the Metal Detox shampoo and mask to cleanse and condition your hair. In addition, you can use the Curl Expression Leave-in Treatment to suit your styling needs.
Why is Curl Expression particularly safe for my hair?
Curl Expression products do not contain parabens, alcohol, sulphates or silicones, as these ingredients have too many undesirable effects, in particular by drying out the hair. Parabens, although known for their preservative effects, can cause endocrine disruption and even breast cancer. Alcohol is used in many products but can cause irritation and dry out the hair by dehydrating it. Therefore, avoiding ethyl alcohol promotes hair hydration. Sulphates have the same negative effects and also attack part of the protective hydrolipid layer that is naturally part of the scalp. In addition, the methods used to extract certain sulphates are harmful to the environment. Furthermore, silicones are said to "suffocate" the skin and hair. They can lead to rapid greasiness of the hair and dry skin. Silicones are not easily biodegradable, so they quickly accumulate in the environment and pollute it.
