Heated curlers: Using electric curlers correctly

Voluminous curls in a blowout look are all the rage right now. The classic way to create these curls is with curlers. Our step-by-step guide shows you how to use electric curlers correctly. Create natural, long-lasting curls with the easy-to-use heated rollers.

Heated rollers, we thought, belonged to the era of perfume diffusers, hand mirrors and powder puffs. They seemed outdated in the age of beachwaves.

But suddenly you saw the look of 90s blowout hair everywhere again. And who doesn't want that casually elegant, voluminous style? So they're back, the ceramic heat rollers. But how do you apply them without creating an outdated granny look? What is the new technique for applying curlers?

We'll show you the way to a cool-girl look with rollers!

What is the difference between normal curlers and heated curlers?

Classic metal curlers are applied to damp or towel-dried hair and dried under a bonnet. The curls are long-lasting, but the technique is very time-consuming. The look becomes rather classic and many find it too unfashionable. Therefore, the electric heat curlers were developed, which can be used on dry hair and thus save time. Another advantage is the natural result and the easy handling.

Make curls with the BaByliss Pro Hot Curls Ceramic Curlers

For our hair curler test, we used the Babyliss Pro Hot Curls Ceramic. The ceramic curler set consists of 20 professional curlers in three different sizes and is suitable for all hair lengths. Babyliss introduced the innovation of heated curlers years ago and is still the absolute leader in the field.

Advantages of the BaByliss Pro Heated Curlers

  • Ceramic coating protects the hair structure
  • The Easy-Clip-System guarantees easy application
  • Fast heat-up time
  • Set of different sizes of rollers for a natural result
  • Heat indicator dot on the curler shows when you can start
  • Velour layer protects the hair and improves hold

Curler or curling iron - which is better for your hair?

Heated rollers add volume to the hair. Perfect for fine and medium hair, especially when you need a style that's long-lasting. Heated rollers are also less damaging to your hair. They work with less heat.

The curling iron, on the other hand, is ideal for individual styles. The curls can be set in a very specific way. In addition, styling is quicker and easier, especially with thick hair, for which you would need a lot of rollers.

Long-lasting, even and voluminous waves with the rollers or a flexible, quick style with the curling iron - which do you prefer? It all depends on what your hair needs.

Tips for correct use

  • The different sizes of curlers create a natural result. Use the smaller rollers for the lower parts of the hair and the larger rollers for more volume on the top of the head.
  • Divide your hair into three sections or more to ensure you get every strand.
  • For a modern look, twist the rollers vertically instead of horizontally.
  • Avoid using hairspray for the finish and go for a texturising spray instead.
  • Definitely start curling your hair at the roots and make sure the ends are not wrapped too tightly around the curlers. This way you will get a relaxed result.
  • Be sure to let the curlers cool down sufficiently, at least 15-20 minutes. Better too long than too short. This is the only way to make the curls last.
  • Turn the curlers in as high as possible on the top of the head to create maximum volume.

Now you have learned how to style voluminous waves in a blowout look with curlers that emit electric heat. Of course, your style should also last as long as possible. A mousse is particularly suitable for this. In this blog post you will learn how to use a mousse correctly and which one is right for you.
