Follow the butterfly: A visit to farfalla

Farfalla's head office is only twenty kilometres from PerfectHair.ch's offices. So we and the natural cosmetics brand are practically neighbours. So it's high time we said hello to our neighbours. So we set off on a short journey and took a closer look at farfalla.

In this article, we'll take you on a tour of farfalla and tell you all about the butterfly. Finally, we'll show you how to make your own personalised room spray.

How it all started

Our visit starts with an introduction to the company's managing director, Malvin Richard. He tells us exciting things about the history of farfalla. He can tell us a lot about the company, as he grew up in the hippie commune that founded farfalla over 40 years ago and is now the second generation to manage the company.

Hippie commune, which farfalla founded
The first generation was, as already mentioned, a hippie commune. And yes, exactly the kind of hippies you are probably imagining now: they were young and keen to experiment, trying things that were still unimaginable in the 70s: These included yoga and macrobiotics as well as producing their own tofu and kombucha - always on the trail of health, ecology and inner peace. But naturopathy was also an important part of their everyday lives, which is how the founders of farfalla came into contact with essential oils.

This gave rise to farfalla: what began as a market stall in Zurich soon developed into a popular shop. That's how popular the essential oils were.

farfalla today

Regional: The plant from which the essential oil is extracted grows in the country in which it originates.

Direct purchasing: Where possible, raw materials are not purchased via secondary dealers, but directly from the cultivation partners - in over 40 countries.

Organic: The majority of essential oils are obtained from organic plants. Why only the majority and not all of them, you ask? Sometimes natural products simply don't have an organic certificate. Like a fir tree in a natural forest, for example. If you ask me? You can't get more organic than plants that grow in their natural environment - even without organic certification.

Our visit continues with a tour of the site. Because today, 40 years later, this shop in Zurich is a popular and well-known company among natural cosmetics enthusiasts and is located in Uster. And even though the product range has expanded and new technologies are constantly improving the quality of natural cosmetics, the effectiveness of essential oils for health and wellbeing has never left farfalla. To this day, every product gets its soothing fragrance and effect from this raw material. These are selected and purchased according to the following criteria:

But it is not only these criteria that make farfalla a sustainable natural cosmetics brand. The products are also all manufactured in Switzerland. Some are even mixed and bottled directly in Uster. The other part is produced in the Jura. This means that all your farfalla favourites have a short journey to our PerfectHair.ch warehouse and then to your home.

Another point that makes farfalla unique is the midwife support, with the mission to give babies all over the world a healthy start in life. This includes the midwifery scholarship in Africa, a mobile midwifery practice in Europe for women on the run and mobile midwifery support in Madagascar.
